Description
Up for sale is my 1977 Suzuki PE250 that has been in storage in a Suzuki dealer showroom for the better part of 30 years. This bike was originally owned by the owner of a Suzuki dealership in Collinsville, VA and when the dealership closed this bike along with a 1978 PE250 (which is also available for sale) was sold to my uncle, who then sold the bike to me. The bike was raced by the shop's owner in the late 70's-early 80's and this bike won a 12-hour endurance race, however the trophies were understandably retained by the original owner's daughter so I have no physical proof of this. The motorcycle has been sitting since the early 1980's and is in as-raced condition. The aftermarket skid plate and homemade case-saver are in great condition considering the type of riding that this bike experienced in its early years. The left hand engine case behind the front sprocket has a small dab of JB Weld present, but does not leak and is only visible when up close to the bike such as servicing. The headlight and taillight function as they are supposed to, and the speedometer correctly counts both mileage and speed when being ridden leading me to believe that the original mileage is displayed. The rear shocks appear to be period correct Works Connection shocks but the seals do leak due to age. A replacement seat cover with poorly executed labels is on the seat, but has no rips or tears and serves its purpose. Factory aluminum gas tank has no holes or leaks, but does have paint missing and battle scars from its racing history. I considered having the dents removed by a body shop friend of mine, but in my opinion the character of the bike is displayed in its scrapes and scars. Some of the bodywork such as fenders and side covers have been painted a factory yellow in the past to brighten the appearance of the bike. The bike has several neat details, such as a tack weld connecting the 2 pieces of the front wheel spacer together to facilitate faster front wheel changes. As one would expect, before any serious riding the bike will need seals replaced such as fork seals, countershaft seals, and so forth due to degradation from age along with a good once-over inspection
After a recent carb clean and left hand crank seal replacement the bike runs, drives and idles as it should and shifts through all gears smoothly. Clutch and brake actuation is smooth, all cables operate as they should. This is an interesting piece of history, and examples such as this are drying up as time passes. Bike is located in Roxboro NC, but once approved payment is received I will assist the buyer with loading onto a shipping company of your choice. I also have a 1978 PE250 with the same ownership history that has been converted to a 1978 RM250 clone that is also available for sale, and the 1978 will be listed upon completion of this auction however I will give this buyer first right of refusal in buying them as a pair.
