Description
Genuine fossil shark tooth sculpture depicting the legendary Great White Shark! (Carcharodon carcharius). The star of the movie “JAWS.” Dimension of canvas is 8x10 inches. Hand-made by Austen Dudenhoeffer “A. Dude” from about 73 individual pieces of 100% real fossil shark teeth collected in Florida (No modern sharks were harmed and 10% of proceeds will be donated to support non-profit marine conservation efforts). Species represented include mostly “whaler sharks” in the bull shark/reef shark family and lemon sharks—plus, ancient tiger shark, snaggle-tooth, and hammerhead teeth. Each year, 75-100 million sharks are slaughtered for “shark fin soup” and as accidental “bi-catch.” Globally, that is 3 shark deaths per second! Many species of sharks are currently endangered, have slow reproduction rates, and take years to reach sexual maturity. Sharks are apex predators of fish and stingrays. We need them to help maintain healthy marine ecosystems since they remove the diseased or injured fish. Sharks are the “white blood cells” of the ocean and serve a vital role in nature.
I majored in Environmental Science and would like to use my artwork to accomplish something good. 10% of proceeds from my shark sculpture paintings will be donated to Ocean Ramsey’s non-profit organization for marine research, conservation, and education programs. I prefer to support marine biology efforts that directly benefit the United States where I live. The ocean is an international territory and we might not be able to control the decisions of other countries currently selling shark-fin soup. However, the U.S. has enacted laws to help protect endangered marine species within our domestic jurisdiction. Please support the heroic efforts of American marine biologists who make that possible.
