Hirase's scallop (Volachlamys hirasei
) is an uncommon pectinid shell occurring around east Asian coasts (chiefly a few limited localities in western Japan). Although this species typically has strong radial costa on the shell surface like the other pectinids, a few ones have weakened costa and the shell surface was almost smooth. The latter phenotypic variation is very rare and called
