This is a beautiful Russian Laquerware Floral Pin
This brooch is signed by the artist.
Lacquerware dates back to the early 1700s.  The techniques involve hand painting in traditional styles on an extremely durable papier-mache or wood base, then applying multiple layers of lacquer.  Over the centuries, Russian artisans have perfected a variety of genres for which they've become world renown.
This one is floral bouquets.  They originated in the village of Zhostovo, the florals capture the tenderness of spring in vibrant colors.  Exceptional depth is achieved by applying two pigments in the same brush stroke.  A real treat.

1.75" diameter
